LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Hundreds of Jewish community members and supporters gathered near 10 Downing Street on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to mark the third anniversary of the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel.

The remembrance vigil was organized by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council. Participants gathered to honor those killed in the attacks, remember the families affected, and express solidarity with Jewish communities in Britain and Israel.

Despite rainy weather, attendees joined in moments of remembrance, including a period of silence, musical performances, and the singing of the national anthems of Britain and Israel. Community leaders addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of remembering the victims and standing together against antisemitism.

The October 7, 2023, attacks killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel, and 251 others were taken hostage. The events left a lasting impact on Israeli society and Jewish communities around the world.

Photographs of victims were displayed during the London commemoration, providing a visible reminder of the individuals and families whose lives were changed by the violence. The gathering also reflected the continued emotional impact of the attacks three years later.

The anniversary came amid heightened concerns about antisemitism across Britain. Jewish community organizations have reported increased incidents of harassment, threats, and hostility toward Jewish individuals and institutions since the October 2023 attacks.

According to the Community Security Trust, 1,926 antisemitic incidents were recorded in the United Kingdom during the first six months of 2026, approximately 20 percent more than during the same period in 2025.

British political and community leaders have continued to condemn antisemitism and emphasize the importance of protecting Jewish communities. The London vigil reinforced calls for solidarity, remembrance, and opposition to hatred directed at Jewish people.

The commemoration also took place against the backdrop of continuing debate over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the humanitarian consequences of the war in Gaza. While opinions about the conflict remain divided, the London gathering focused on remembering those killed during the October 7 attacks and supporting Jewish communities affected by the violence.

For the Whole Bible Community, the anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of remembering those who have suffered, rejecting antisemitism, and praying for peace in Israel and throughout the region.

Scripture repeatedly calls believers to pursue peace, defend those facing injustice, and show compassion toward people experiencing suffering. These principles remain important as communities continue responding to the consequences of violence and conflict.

Three years after the attacks, the London vigil demonstrated how remembrance, solidarity, and the protection of Jewish life remain significant concerns far beyond Israel's borders.
